Carmen Flesher, age 15, lives in Ann Arbor where she studies violin with Solomia Soroka. Carmen started playing the violin at age 4 and has been truly passionate about music ever since! Over the last 10 years she has played in several local ensembles, and orchestras at Interlochen and Blue Lake – where she was not only one of the youngest members, but also concert master of both Symphony Orchestras. Carmen also loves to perform chamber music, and plays regularly with a string quartet.
In addition to being a violinist, Carmen is a pianist and singer. She is a straight-A student and has received many academic honors including 1st place at both the Forsythe and Southeast Michigan Science Fairs last year. In 2008 Carmen was selected as a student ambassador and traveled to Japan as part of the Hikone/Ann Arbor Exchange Program. Ms. Flesher attends Skyline High School where she is excited to be part of the new and developing music program. She also fits soccer into her busy schedule, playing on the Michigan Jaguars premier team.
Carmen has attended most all of the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra’s concerts or dress rehearsals since the Symphony’s inception in 1999. With great enthusiasm she says, “I am totally thrilled and honored to perform with the orchestra. It’s a dream come true!”
